With its different meanings in the Moroccan culture, Blue plays an important role in the Moroccan colour palette from the sky to the ocean.

Let’s start first with the Blue city that everyone knows: the Instagramable Chefchaouen.

Chefchaouen is a picturesque town located in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco. The city is famous for its striking blue-washed buildings, narrow winding streets, and vibrant markets. The tradition of painting the buildings blue is said to have originated from the Jewish community that settled in Chefchaouen in the 1930s. The blue colour is believed to symbolize the sky and heaven, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere throughout the city. Others say that the blue paint was used by everyone as a solution to keep the flys and mosquitos away and has nothing to do with the Jewish people.

The Blue Touareg scarf, also known as a Tagelmust or Cheche, is a traditional garment worn by the Tuareg people of the Sahara desert.
